M S Gony – who sounds much like the glamorous M S Dhoni, played a pivotal role in the Punjab victory against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
First it was his Dhoni-style batting that lifted the lackluster Punjab batting to a respectable total.
When Punjab lost David Miller at the end of the 16th over, they were hopelessly placed at 109/7.
However, the entire complexion of the match changed once Gony stepped in.
A number eight batsman – Gony, hit three sixes in his innings.
None of the top or middle order batsman had hit any six until then.
Sunil Narine, who took a hat-trick for Kolkata had conceded only 10 runs from his three overs.
But once Gony went berserk, the equation changed entirely.
Narine was hit for 23 runs – the costliest by him so far in a match where he picked up a hat-trick.
In the bowling department too Gony proved himself.
He bowled 4 over’s and conceded just 18 runs and picked up a wicket too.
