Curiosity Mars Science Laboratory lands on Mars at Gale Crater

Mars Science Laboratory(Curiosity) lands on Mars on 6th August 2012 at Gale Crater. During the landing Curiosity rate of fall retarded from 20000 Km/s supersonic speed to 1m/s when it touched the surface at landing area in Gale crater.

Mars Science Laboratory (Curiosity) started its journey from the planet Earth to Mars on 26th November 2012. Just after an hour of take off Centaur Stage separated and Curiosity started its journey in the deep space on it’s way to the red planet Mars.

After 4 minutes of entry the most powerful Supersonic parachutes deployed. In next 20 Seconds Curiosity heat shield got separated. In next 2 min Back shell separated. After 40 seconds of back shell separation Rover got separated from the sky crane and rover starts landing through cords attached to sky crane. After 13 seconds of hanging Curiosity landed successfully at Gale crater on the Martian surface.
