Tollywood’s yesteryears heroine of unblemished repute Sharada has been awarded the NTR National Award by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. She will be receiving the award at the Nandi Awards function to be held by the Government of Andhra Pradesh shortly.
Popularly known as Urvashi Sharada, she was known for her powerful acting in Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil movies. She was a contemporary of N.T. Rama Rao (NTR) in whose memory the NTR National Award is being given by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Sharada has acted in many films with NTR.
She has also won the National Film Award for Best Actress thrice. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her roles twice for Malayalam movies and once for her acting in Telugu movie Nimajjanam in 1977. Her national award winning Malayalam movies are Thulabharam in 1968 and Swayamvaram in 1972.
Sharada had been active in politics as a member of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), founded by NTR. She was also Member of Parliament of TDP from Andhra Pradesh.
