Spinal cord injuries could now be treated with the help of teeth, suggests experiments conducted by scientists. The experiment was done on the rats with broken backs. Scientists have used the dental pulp stem cells on the broken back of the rats and noticed considerable movement in their legs.
This study was done in Nagoya University in Japan under the guidance of Dr Mark Bacon and found certain evidence that the dental pulp stem cells stops degeneration of nerve and also helps in regeneration of nerve cells. The dental pulp stem cells also encourage the growth of other cells supporting the spinal cord.
The dental pulp stem cells could be extracted from the centre of adult wisdom teeth and the best part is that it does not leave any adverse effects on health as per the reports.
The scientists also stated that the dental pulp stem cells derived from the tooth are excellent cellular resource for the treatment of the spinal cord injuries.
